Start with the right application
Choose the package that matches your operating system and processor. Compare its SHA-256 checksum with the published value. Review the publisher information shown by your operating system before installing. Install on an updated computer that you control.
Build your recovery plan
Create a wallet privately inside the application. Protect any recovery phrase offline, and document the network families and accounts you use separately from that phrase. An encrypted backup and a seed phrase are different recovery methods; understand the requirements of your chosen method.
Make a small first transfer
Select the receiving network and asset. Match the network at the sender, confirm the address and token identifier, then transfer a small amount. Check both receipt and your ability to send before moving a larger balance.
